The 1978–1979 US version of the SR500 had front and rear disc brakes. Cast aluminum wheels accepting tubeless tires were standard equipment on all North American models (1978–1981). By the end of 1981, the SR500 was discontinued in the US market, while continuing in Europe and Japan.
The Yamaha SR500 has been a popular bike for decades, due to clean styling and a reliable single-cylinder engine. These traits have also led this bike to be the base for thousands of custom works, including choppers, dirt-trackers, and cafe racers. Here’s one that’s probably too nice to be cut up, at a surprisingly reasonable price. This is an unmolested stock factory example, as most have been made into Cafe racers. Bike has qualified for a Collector Plate and insurance in BC which indicates its originality. lLess that 14,000 on the odometer.
